President Donald Trump’s assertion that wealthy donors will cover the cost of the White House ballroom is being shown as false, as new reports reveal the actual cost to the public.
“Trump has been lying all along, knowing exactly what the cost is and how much it will cost the taxpayers,” said political analyst Brian Tyler Cohen, referencing recent reporting by The Washington Post.
The Post examined initial cost estimates from the contractor building the ballroom and found the total cost will be around $600 million, with about half of that paid by the public.
“Why would Trump try to mess with something he claims to love?” Cohen asked, challenging Trump’s statements about loving America.
“When Americans are struggling because of his bad policies, this president has decided to make us pay for it.”
Cohen also noted that the list of 27 donors for the ballroom includes companies like Amazon, Apple, Google, Lockheed Martin, Meta, and Palantir, and more than half of them have received large government contracts since making their donations.
“Hey, not a bad deal,” Cohen joked.
“It’s kind of like if at Christmas, he gave a little money to Santa, and then in January, he gave you back all the money he collected.”
