The leader of the company that did part of the work on the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool admitted to giving money to a congressman, according to a report by The New York Times on Thursday night.
President Donald Trump has been very interested in the Reflecting Pool in recent months.
He made sure to talk about it often during press events, even when reporters didn’t ask him about it.After the pool was fixed, it started having problems with algae growing in it.This week, people around the pool noticed that paint was coming off the bottom.Instead of showing the blue color Trump wanted for the bottom – which is the color of the American flag – the algae made the pool look green.
As part of the renovation, Trump gave a $1.7 million contract without a bid to an Ohio company called Greenwater Services to install a water cleaning system.
The company is owned by the J.J.Cafaro Trust, which is run by John J.Cafaro, a person who has given money to Trump and lives next to him at Mar-a-Lago.The company’s address in Florida corporate records is Cafaro’s mansion in Palm Beach.The report said Cafaro has given money to both Republicans and Democrats.
One of the Democrats Cafaro gave money to was former Congressman James Traficant from Ohio.
He was bribed by Cafaro, and Cafaro later testified against Traficant.
In 2001, Cafaro admitted to helping bribe Traficant.
Traficant was then expelled from the U.S.House of Representatives.Until 2023, when another congressman was expelled, Traficant was the most recent member to be kicked out.He was later found guilty of bribery and racketeering and was released from prison in 2009.He passed away in 2014.
Traficant was known for his strange hairstyle and short speeches that didn’t have anything to do with the work the House was doing.
He was also known for his crimes.
