Donald Trump said he was “the greatest” president in U.S.history and shared this ranking on his social media platform, Truth Social, on Thursday.He didn’t include nearly a dozen of his predecessors in the list.
The ranking groups presidents into six categories: “The Greatest,” “Great,” “Near Great,” “Average,” “Below Average,” and “Failures.” Trump is the only one in the top group.
The “Great” group includes Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Franklin D.
Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Thomas Jefferson, and Andrew Jackson.
Theodore Roosevelt, Grover Cleveland, John Adams, and James K.
Polk are considered “Near Great.”
Presidents in the “Average” group are Bill Clinton, John Quincy Adams, James Monroe, Rutherford B.
Hayes, James Madison, Martin Van Buren, William Howard Taft, Chester A.Arthur, William McKinley, Andrew Johnson, Herbert Hoover, and Benjamin Harrison.
John Tyler, Calvin Coolidge, Millard Fillmore, Zachary Taylor, James Buchanan, and Franklin Pierce are in the “Below Average” group.
At the bottom, Trump put Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Ulysses S.
Grant, Warren G.Harding, and Jimmy Carter in the “Failures” group.
Some presidents are completely missing from the list, including William Henry Harrison, James A.
Garfield (both died shortly after being sworn in), Harry S.Truman, Dwight D.Eisenhower, John F.Kennedy, Lyndon B.Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George H.W.Bush, and George W.Bush.
On Wednesday, Trump shared an image on Truth Social comparing himself with younger Bush.
The image had a sign saying “Mission Not Accomplished 2001-2021” next to Bush, while Trump stood with a sign reading “Mission Accomplished 2026.” This seemed to show Trump’s war in Iran as a success and the long U.S.war in Afghanistan, which started under Bush after 9/11, as a failure.
Earlier in July, Trump talked about past presidents on a podcast hosted by the Second Lady, Usha Vance.
He called Lyndon B.Johnson a “tough cookie,” Reagan “high quality,” and the two Bushes “the Bushies.” All four of these presidents are not included in his new ranking.
He also talked about William Howard Taft, who he put in the “Average” group, and joked about him being the heaviest president.
He said, “I have to be careful, ’cause I don’t want to supersede his record.”
