Meghan McCain told her Republican friends to take New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani more seriously as a threat, even though he can’t run for president in 2028.
After Mamdani talked to Lulu Garcia-Navarro for the New York Times, McCain posted on X and warned her followers that the mayor could be a “huge f–king problem” for the GOP if other Democrats started following his style.
“I’m going to say something that might anger my fellow Republicans about Mamdani,” McCain wrote.
“I listened to his interview with @LuluGNavarro.For someone who doesn’t have time to pay attention to the details of his message, what he’s saying is absolutely brilliant in his attacks on the right.The way he speaks is brilliant.It’s like a folksy everyman, and Republicans have left the working class behind, acting like elites without being harsh or conspiratorial.”
She added: “He’s gotten really strong, really fast, and is evolving his national message to the rest of the country.
Even though I really dislike socialism, his message is impactful.If Democrats are smart, they’ll nominate someone with his tone and approach on economics and national policy.”
As McCain continued, she warned that if Democrats used a similar style for the 2028 presidential election, Republicans would face a “huge f–king problem we won’t be able to podcast bro our way out of.”
McCain shared a similar thought on her podcast, “Citizen McCain,” where she called Mamdani a “generational talent.”
“He’s like Obama,” she said.
“We should all thank God he can’t run for president, because he would be a formidable candidate in about 10 years.”
McCain stressed that she thinks Republicans aren’t taking Mamdani “seriously enough,” adding, “I don’t think Republicans realize that he’s really the best messenger.”
She explained that even though Mamdani, who was born in Uganda and became a naturalized U.S.
citizen in 2018, can’t run in 2028, he’d likely set the tone for the main Democratic candidate.
In a follow-up post on X, she said, “Republicans are not paying enough attention to Mayor Mamdani.
He is a once-in-a-generation talent who will become the next kingmaker of the Democratic party.”
