A key official from the Kennedy Center told a federal judge this week that the well-known venue would face a drop in donation money if President Donald Trump’s name were taken off the building.
This statement is part of a lawsuit against Trump by Kennedy Center board member and Democratic Congresswoman Joyce Beatty, and it was highlighted on Wednesday morning by Lawfare senior editor Roger Parloff in a post on X.
Kennedy Center Chief Operating Officer Charles Matthew Floca stated, “If President Trump’s name is removed from the Center, that important fundraising link will be cut, leading to serious harm and making the Center’s development efforts very unstable.
This would greatly affect its trust-funded artistic programs and make it financially impossible to continue current trust-funded operations.”
Since he took office, Trump has worked hard to gain control over the Kennedy Center, appointing supporters to its board, who then added Trump’s name to the building.
As a result, the Kennedy Center has experienced a significant drop in ticket sales, revenue, and performers who are unwilling to support the president’s image.
In response, officials are planning to close the Kennedy Center for two years for renovation work, which critics argue is an attempt to hide how badly the center’s finances have been affected.
