“Something just happened in Texas. The most dishonest politician in America has just become the Republican candidate for the United States Senate,” Talarico said in a video shared on X. “Three years ago, Ken Paxton was impeached by his own party for using his position to benefit himself and his donors, hurting the people in the process.”
“This kind of corruption is at the heart of this broken system.
It’s why we struggle to afford things. It’s why we can’t get ahead no matter how hard we try,” he added.
Paxton won against Republican Senator John Cornyn in the Texas primary, mainly because Trump endorsed him.
Paxton shows the worst of what this country can be. He was impeached by his own party for accepting bribes while serving as state attorney general, and his wife divorced him due to infidelity.
Paxton claimed that the terrible Uvalde school shooting, where 21 people died and 18 were hurt, was just “part of God’s plan.”
Even worse, Paxton’s office proposed a lenient plea deal for a man who repeatedly sexually abused a young boy.
This deal would have allowed the abuser to plead guilty to minor charges and only spend one day in jail. Paxton is seen as protecting those offenders, which might explain why Trump supports him.
“For 50 years, wealthy donors and their puppet politicians like Ken Paxton have taken from us with their bribes, bailouts, and tax breaks for billionaires.
Ken Paxton has managed to escape responsibility,” Talarico continued in his video. “They’ve all gotten away with it.”
“But that will change this year, in this state, in this race.
If we, the people, can unite to defeat the most corrupt politician in America, we can take down this entire corrupt system. We can begin to fix this economy,” he said. “We can raise our wages, lower our taxes, and cut our costs. We can finally get ahead. It’s time to stand together.”
“The people against Ken Paxton,” Talarico finished.
In another tweet, Talarico, who is a state representative, invited Cornyn’s supporters to join his campaign.
“I want to thank Senator John Cornyn for his years of service to our state,” he wrote.
“We may not agree on everything, but we both believe in serving the public. To Senator Cornyn’s supporters: you have a place in our campaign.”
