Secretary of War Crimes Pete Hegseth’s visit to honor the D-Day landings in Normandy caused strong anger among locals near the cemetery, who openly showed their protest and called him a disgrace to the values the Allies stood for.
In the village of Langrune-sur-Mer, residents and local groups made it clear they did not want him there.
One local leader said Hegseth represents “values contrary to democracy, human rights, and peace,” while another directly called him a symbol of “colonial, warmongering, racist, far-right values.”
The civic group Langrune en Commun issued a strong statement demanding his visit be canceled, arguing it would disrespect the memory of the American, British, and Canadian soldiers who died on those beaches fighting for freedom.
As expected, Pentagon Pete did not display the humility and gratitude that should be shown on such an important occasion, the anniversary of one of the most sacred days in military history.
Hegseth used his speech to criticize European allies for not supporting Trump’s war in Iran and to bring MAGA politics into the commemoration by comparing the heroic D-Day landing with the arrival of migrant boats in Europe in a very hurtful way.
The competition is tough, but as the main promoter of the U.S. military’s new, regressive attitude that believes might makes right and that everyone else should be treated poorly, it’s safe to say that Hegseth is one of the biggest embarrassments in the Trump administration, right up there with the boss himself.
If I were a villager in Langrune-sur-Mer, I would support the statement too.
As the head of the U.S. military, Hegseth dishonors the memory of the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice 80 years ago so that we could be free.

Why does Hegseth have his wife & six kids with him when he is on a working trip, representing his country, in France for D -Day?
It’s not appropriate! The White House may lie and say that he brought his family with him to France at his own expense, but I bet he’s not paying for all the extra security required to protect them all!
I also still don’t understand why his wife sits in on White house Iran war briefings, when she doesn’t even have security clearance to do so. Will she be involved in any French meetings as well? Will American security officers have to babysit the kids while mummy & daddy “work”?
We all know already how “leaky” Hegseth himself is re “privileged information”, after he shared government secrets on two occasions via social media platform “Signal” with friends & family – have the French D -Day meetings now turned into coffee mornings for his wife to gossip about?
