I’m curious, Senator, do you ever worry that being so open and critical of the president might hurt our position in negotiations at a key time when we’re trying to get Iran to be peaceful for the region and the world instead of becoming a nuclear power?”
“Donald Trump weakens his own position when he starts a war without telling the American people what it’s about,” replied Senator Warren. “
In the beginning, he couldn’t explain why the war started, what the goal was, or what we hoped to achieve.”
“And how many times a day does Donald Trump say something that’s not true or contradicts himself?
” Eisen continued. “Donald Trump has claimed he’s going to destroy an entire civilization and commit war crimes in the name of the American people. Donald Trump is ruining America’s credibility and reputation around the world.”
“Do you not agree with the main goal here?
” asked Eisen.
“Which goal?
You mean the one to keep the Obama agreement in place?” Warren responded.
“The goal to make sure Iran doesn’t have advanced missiles to terrorize its neighbors, which it has done, doesn’t have a nuclear program, and doesn’t fund terrorists worldwide?”
Eisen said. “We don’t want to go into North Korea. It’s too late.”

American intelligence agencies have found that Iran was not trying to build a nuclear weapon, and Iran is using its missiles to “terrorize” the region because the U.S. and Israel attacked them first. This war wasn’t about stopping Iran from getting nuclear weapons—it was about destroying a regional enemy of Israel so they could expand their territory without challenge.
The North Korea reference is insightful, but not for the reason Eisen thinks.
By launching this war against Iran after breaking Obama’s historic deal, Trump sent a clear message to the world that the only way to prevent an invasion is to get nuclear weapons. That’s why North Korea remains untouched by the U.S. military. A long-term effect of this Iran war will be making the world far less safe and far more nuclearized.
“And that’s why I supported the agreement that stopped Iran’s nuclear program,” continued Warren.
“And yet, Donald Trump tore that up. And what did Mr. Dealmaker get in return? Nothing. Zero. And now we are in a far worse situation because of Donald Trump’s chaos. Tell me, how is the United States going to be better off?”
“I think he said he wants to make a negotiation,” Eisen said.
“Can I finish my answer?”
Warren shot back. “We’ve lost 13 Americans, spent a billion dollars a day overseas destroying things, had an act of war that led to blockades and raised prices at home.”
“How are people in America better off?”
Warren asked. “Donald Trump has made people at home less safe, more financially strained, and damaged our reputation around the world.”
