Shortly after the Supreme Court decided not to take up Trump’s appeal of the civil case that Carroll won in 2023, his legal team contacted Carroll’s team and asked if they could delay the payment while they tried to get the court to reconsider its decision.
In short, Trump lost the case and then asked for more time to try and win.
Carroll’s lawyers immediately and clearly said no.
This situation shows a lot of dishonesty.
Not only did Trump sexually assault this woman, he also publicly shamed her repeatedly and fought the case all the way to the Supreme Court. When he couldn’t get the outcome he wanted, he acted like this was just a simple disagreement, instead of a serious and cruel battle.
At the same time he was asking Carroll to delay the payment, he was posting on Truth Social that he “never met” her, calling the defamation claim “ridiculous,” and saying he was fighting “injustice.”
In their court filing, Carroll’s lawyers, Roberta Kaplan, D.
Brandon Trice, and Maximilian T.Crema, said there’s no reason to delay the payment any longer — especially since the Supreme Court, including the conservative justices, all agreed not to hear the case.
“The payment that Carroll is owed has been agreed to by the defendant on every request for delay.
However, since all of those requests have been denied, this cooperation ends today. It is time for him to pay Carroll,” the lawyers wrote.
The total amount of about $5.8 million has gone up due to interest, because Trump delayed the payment and went through the court system trying to get relief.
Originally, a jury found him responsible for sexual abuse, and then additional damages were added for defamation.Trump is now appealing a separate $83 million defamation verdict that Carroll won in 2024.
Carroll’s lawyers called this moment “the end of the line” and said it’s “time for him to pay Carroll.”
Trump needs to hand over the money immediately.
And then she has to stay alert. If he defames her again, she should file an even bigger lawsuit against him.
