Frederiksen said at the NATO meeting in Turkey, “We will defend the kingdom of Denmark.”
This came after Trump once again said the United States should take control of Greenland for “national security” reasons.
“Greenland is a big problem for us.
We need it for protecting the world, not just the United States, and it’s very important,” he added.”It doesn’t help Denmark.”
In truth, Trump’s crazy idea of taking over land has nothing to do with real defense.
Greenland is already part of NATO, which means the U.S.has military control over the island already.Just claiming it as American property doesn’t do anything except make Trump feel good about himself.
That’s really what this is about.
The same big ego that made him try to put his name on the Kennedy Center and build a fancy ballroom is now making him want to take over Greenland.
Trump wants to be remembered as a president who took over more land, even though he has no real achievements to show for his time in office.
Luckily, the rest of the world isn’t going to let him push them around like this anymore.
“We are ready to defend every inch of NATO, including our own territory,” Frederiksen said.
“We are a sovereign country and we need everyone to respect our land and our independence,” she added.
“Article 5 is our guarantee.”
The EU is standing with Denmark, much to MAGA supporters’ disappointment.
“Decisions about Greenland’s future should be made by Greenlanders and Danes,” said Olof Gill, a spokesperson for the European Commission.
“Respecting borders, national independence, and keeping them safe are basic rules of international law.”
It’s likely Trump will move on to something else after this meeting ends, and Greenland will stay free.
But the harm he’s done with his words is huge. Our key military partnerships have been seriously affected, and our European friends are now realizing they can’t trust the U.S.as much anymore.
When Trump finally leaves the Oval Office, he will leave behind a country that’s weaker, less stable, and more alone than when he took over.
