“Today’s charges mark a major step in our work to hold people accountable for the harm done to our community during Operation Metro Surge,” said Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty. “Our community is still dealing with the effects of the federal occupation. Every day, I was inspired by the bravery of Minnesotans and the way they looked out for each other during the surge.”
An arrest warrant has been filed against Agent Greg Morgan for two counts of second-degree assault.
The incident happened in February when Morgan was allegedly driving a rented unmarked SUV on the shoulder of the road illegally. He was trying to get around traffic when the victim pulled in front of him on the shoulder before returning to their lane.
“After the victim’s car moved back into the legal lane, Mr. Morgan sped up to pass the victim’s car,” said Moriarty.
“He then slowed down to match the victim’s speed, rolled down his window, and pointed his duty weapon directly at both victims in the other car while still driving illegally on the shoulder.”
This kind of behavior represents the mindset seen throughout Trump’s paramilitary group.
ICE agents join because they want to feel strong. They want to point guns at innocent people, and in some cases, even kill them. They are living out a power fantasy and feel free to break the law. They are about to learn the cost of their actions.
Despite Stephen Miller’s ridiculous claim that ICE agents have federal protection for what they do, Moriarty is not backing down.
She clearly said, “There is no such thing as complete protection for federal agents who break the law in Minnesota or any other state.”
When reporters asked about possible retaliation from the Trump administration over the arrest warrant, Moriarty stayed calm.
“The question is, are we worried about any federal response?”
she said. “They’ve said they wouldn’t be happy if federal agents were charged. That’s not something we’re worried about.”
“Our job is to hold people responsible if they break Minnesota’s laws,” she continued. “
In this case, we believe this agent committed second-degree assault on both victims. We have charged him, and we’re determined to hold him accountable.”

Moriarty is exactly the kind of public servant this moment in history needs. Fascism grows stronger when democratic forces are too scared to enforce the law and fight back. Moriarty is setting a standard for every prosecutor in the country. Charge these ICE criminals and put them behind bars!
