Donald Trump has launched another blistering attack on New York Attorney General Letitia James, demanding that she be removed from the investigation into an alleged sexual assault at Cornell University.
In a Truth Social post Tuesday, Trump questioned why James had been appointed special prosecutor in the case and called her a “DIRTY AND DISGUSTING COP” with “ZERO credibility.”
He went further, claiming her involvement would undermine the investigation and demanding that Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul replace her immediately.
“The Governor should take James off this case, IMMEDIATELY,” Trump wrote, calling for someone who was not a “Third Rate, Crooked Politician.”
The investigation concerns allegations made by a former Cornell student who filed a civil lawsuit in September, claiming she was sexually assaulted by seven fraternity members in 2024. The accused men have not been criminally charged, and several have denied the allegations.
Hochul appointed James on October 1 after expressing a loss of confidence in Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten, whose office initially declined to prosecute the case.
The governor said the appointment was intended to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation.
James pledged to follow the evidence, interview witnesses and pursue charges if warranted.
Trump, however, has a long and bitter history with the attorney general. James brought a civil fraud lawsuit against him and his businesses, resulting in a major judgment that Trump challenged.
Earlier this month, Trump also called James “totally corrupt” when reporters asked about her new assignment.
“I feel badly for whoever she’s looking at because they won’t get a fair shake,” he said.
The dispute has now moved beyond Trump’s social media posts. Attorneys for one of the men named in the Cornell civil lawsuit have separately petitioned a court to remove James, alleging that her previous public comments show bias. That allegation has not been established by a court.
Meanwhile, the investigation remains active, and Cornell itself faces growing criticism over how it handled the original complaint.
Trump’s demand does not remove James from the case. For now, the attorney general remains responsible for investigating allegations that have already raised serious questions about the university and local prosecutors.
