We need to understand that once we start moving forward, once we see a candidate like Barack Obama win, once we see Congress win, it’s not about keeping power just for the sake of it. It’s about actually passing meaningful laws and making real progress, Walz said on MS NOW.
“And for this, Donald Trump has encouraged me,” Walz added.
“When we take power back, I’ll tell you this: the next Democratic president had better find a way to get universal healthcare, or we’ll end up in the same spot again.”
The governor is right.
Trump has shown that the presidency has more power than we once thought. A president can take action to change the nation and push the courts to follow.
In Trump’s case, he’s used this power to help himself and big companies, take away people’s rights, start unnecessary wars, and harm minority communities.
A Democrat, on the other hand, could use these presidential powers to improve lives by pushing through universal healthcare.
And let’s not hear anyone say we can’t afford it.
Trump’s war in Iran alone has already cost tens of billions, and he recently asked for a huge $1.5 trillion defense budget. We can afford healthcare. We’re just spending it on bombs and bullets to kill innocent people.
Politically, Walz is also right.
Democrats need to find ways to put real, life-changing policies in place when we’re in power. Otherwise, we risk letting another leader like Trump gain power again. It’s not enough to just win elections. We have to show through policies that Democrats are the better choice. Let’s change this country for the better.
