On Monday, a federal judge sent Todd Blanche — Donald Trump’s former personal defense lawyer and now his choice to lead the nation’s top law enforcement agency — to the New York Bar Association for possible disciplinary action. The judge said Blanche had testified in a way that was, according to the court, “not honest at best and possibly dishonest at worst.”
Two days later, on Wednesday, the Senate held a confirmation hearing for Blanche to become the U.S.
Attorney General.
Let’s take a moment to make sense of this incredibly strange situation.
On the Meidas Touch podcast, Schiff clearly explained: “The judge in that case said that when Blanche claimed they didn’t take the bogus settlement to court because there was no proper court to review it, the judge said we were here and could have looked into it.
That was disingenuous at best and possibly dishonest at worst.”
A real federal judge — not a political rival or a commentator — ruled that Blanche might have lied under oath about why a questionable settlement wasn’t taken to court, even though a court was available to review it.
That’s not just a technical issue. It’s a serious accusation that could ruin a normal lawyer’s career.
For Todd Blanche, it only delayed his confirmation hearing by 48 hours.
Schiff asked, “How can it be that after being referred to a bar association for possible discipline on Monday, we’re even considering this person for Attorney General on Wednesday?”
That’s a valid question.
And the answer is uncomfortable: because Trump doesn’t want an Attorney General who enforces the law fairly. He wants someone loyal, and Blanche has already shown he’s willing to lie to be loyal.
The job of the nation’s top law enforcer shouldn’t go to someone who’s being investigated for dishonesty.
That shouldn’t be a controversial standard.Clearly, in this administration, it is.
