Fox News contributor Joe Concha spoke openly about Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell.The 84-year-old senator has been away from his office for more than 80 days.
He was hospitalized in June and recently shared an update, saying he was back home and working on his recovery.
Though it’s not clear when he will return to the Senate, Concha recently discussed him on his show.
On Saturday’s episode of Fox News’ The Big Weekend Show, Joe Concha talked about McConnell’s absence.
He was frustrated and suggested that McConnell should either come back to the Senate or resign.
“I’ll say it,” Concha said.
“If he doesn’t come back in September, he needs to step down.Enough of this already.”
He added, “How many months has it been since we’ve even heard from him directly?
I don’t want to see ‘proof of life’ photos from a hospital bed anymore.He needs to get in front of a microphone and prove he can do this job.And if he can’t, he needs to step aside.Period,” AlterNet reported.
McConnell has had health issues in recent years.
Earlier this year, he was hospitalized for the flu, and in June he was hospitalized again.
The Senate didn’t share any details about his absence until July 12, when he gave an update.
In his statement, he said he lost consciousness after falling and was then hospitalized.
James Comer, a top Kentucky Republican, gave some hope about McConnell’s return.
In an interview with the Daily Mail last week, Comer said he “expects” and “sure hopes” the senator will come back later this month with his colleagues.
“I have not talked to Leader McConnell.
I’ve talked to staff, many of whom are from my district originally, and they have all said it’s their goal for Senator McConnell to be here when they, when the Senate comes in next week,” Comer said.
After a few days in the hospital, McConnell moved to a rehabilitation facility.
McConnell shared an update about his health on August 6.
He said he was back home and thanked people for their support and well wishes.
While at home, he said he would focus on recovery and also continue with his work.
“On the advice of my doctors, I’ll maintain an intensive regimen of physical therapy from home during the state work period, and I’ll continue to engage with my staff and colleagues on important Senate business,” he wrote.
Before this, McConnell had posted an update on July 27, sharing a photo with his wife, Elaine Chao, from the hospital.
In the same statement, he expressed regret for not being able to attend the Fancy Farm event.
It remains to be seen whether McConnell will return to the Senate on September 14.
