A viewer poll done by CNN’s Michael Smerconish showed that almost 90% of people think Dr.Anthony Fauci should get “immunity” along with his presidential pardon.
Smerconish shared the poll results during the last part of his show on Saturday.
He asked the audience, “Should the Senate give Dr.Fauci immunity in return for his testimony?”
With over 31,000 votes counted, 87% said “yes.” The remaining 13% answered “no.”
Smerconish said after seeing the results, “Alright, I’m in the majority.
That’s the first time in a few weeks, I think.”
He then looked at reactions on social media.
One person questioned why Fauci would need “immunity” if he didn’t do anything wrong.
Smerconish explained that Fauci needs extra legal protection because the president often targets political opponents.
He also mentioned that Trump shouldn’t have been indicted because it helped him win the 2024 election.
Smerconish said:
Legal opponents who have found themselves on the receiving end of a subpoena or an indictment or, you know, fill in the blank, many of them without merit it, at least, you know, many without merit, maybe all without merit, and I made the case at the outset of the program that — you know, President Trump, let me offend all of you. I’ll do this quickly — should not have been indicted four times. He got elected because he was indicted.
Fauci was given a pardon by former President Joe Biden at the end of his term.
The former head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases used his Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination more than 100 times during a Capitol Hill appearance on Wednesday.
He was questioned by Sen.Rand Paul (R-KY) but didn’t answer any of the questions.
Paul then promised to hold a vote next week to accuse Fauci of contempt of Congress.
Legal experts say this might be hard to prove in court.
