Rep. Ilhan Omar fired back at President Donald Trump on Friday after he revived allegations about her identity, accused her of using a false name and demanded that she resign from Congress.
But the Minnesota Democrat had an unexpected response to the president’s fixation on her name: a pointed reminder about Vice President JD Vance.
In a blistering post on X, Omar accused Trump of promoting conspiracy theories through his Justice Department.
“The pedophile protection party’s president is laundering right-wing conspiracy theories through the most corrupt DOJ in American history,” she wrote.
The pedophile protection party’s president is laundering right-wing conspiracy theories through the most corrupt DOJ in American history. Whenever the news turns bad, this creep reaches for one name: mine. So let’s make it crystal clear. My name has always been Ilhan Omar. Maybe you should focus on what your VP’s real name is.

Then she addressed Trump’s accusations directly.
“Whenever the news turns bad, this creep reaches for one name: mine. So let’s make it crystal clear. My name has always been Ilhan Omar.”
And she finished with a jab that brought Trump’s own vice president into the controversy.
“Maybe you should focus on what your VP’s real name is.”
The exchange began after Trump posted a lengthy message on Truth Social claiming that Omar had used a false name to win election to Congress.
The president cited a Justice Department court filing that referred to the congresswoman as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar.”
Trump presented the filing as evidence of wrongdoing and revived longstanding allegations that Omar had married her brother — claims she has repeatedly denied.
He also demanded that she “IMMEDIATELY resign from Congress.”
But the court filing does not establish that Omar committed fraud, and she has not been charged with a crime.
In fact, public records have identified her as Ilhan Omar for nearly two decades. Marriage and divorce documents, voting records and other official filings have used that name.
Omar’s office has categorically rejected the president’s allegations.
The congresswoman’s response, however, did more than dispute the claims. It turned Trump’s argument back toward his own administration.
Her reference to JD Vance was no accident.
The vice president was born James Donald Bowman in 1984. His surname later changed to Hamel, following his mother’s marriage, before he eventually adopted Vance, the surname of his maternal grandparents.
Those changes are documented parts of his personal history and do not suggest wrongdoing.
But Omar’s point was political: if Trump believes a person’s name history deserves intense scrutiny, his own vice president has a far more publicly documented history of name changes than the one Trump is accusing her of concealing.
The clash also comes amid a federal investigation involving Omar’s immigration history.
Earlier this month, federal agents searched her Washington-area residence. Omar has denied wrongdoing and accused the administration of targeting her for political reasons.
The investigation remains separate from any determination of guilt. No criminal charge against Omar has been announced.
Trump, meanwhile, has repeatedly attacked the Minnesota congresswoman, making her a frequent target of his public remarks.
Omar has continued to reject his accusations and challenge his administration’s actions.
This time, rather than allow the president’s allegations to define the exchange, she used one sentence to shift attention to someone sitting much closer to Trump.
And the name she chose was JD Vance.

There’s a big difference that causes Rumpto attack Ilhan Omar while ignoring JD Vance’s name changes; she’s not white while he is.
