House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) reportedly lost his temper with his fellow Republicans, shouting, “I’m sick of this sh*t!” during a private meeting as some members of his party argued over a recent veterans bill, according to a report.
This unusual moment came as lawmakers disagreed on a bipartisan veterans bill.
Rep.Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) opposed the legislation, while Rep.Zach Nunn (R-IA) supported it.
When Luna allegedly became angry with the speaker, Johnson lost control, according to NOTUS, which cited “multiple sources in the room.”
Johnson quickly apologized to Luna and then turned to face the school-aged son of Rep.
Gabe Evans (R-CO), who witnessed the whole event, to apologize for using profanity, the outlet reported.
He later pulled the bill from the House floor and said the Take Care of America’s Veterans Act might be delayed “for weeks,” according to the Military Times.
Republicans have a narrow majority in the House, and several sources told NOTUS that the party’s difficulty in passing any legislation has frustrated many on Capitol Hill.
“The Republican conference is a mix of people, some really good at getting things done and others who like to shut things down,” Rep.
Dusty Johnson (R-SD) told the outlet.
Rep.
Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) said most House members are “team players who don’t like the small minority that blocks legislation.”
“I don’t like it, but we live in a reality where they can use that leverage.
So most of us don’t like it.We’re team players.”
“It’s the hardcore conservatives against everyone else,” Rep.
Tim Burchett (R-Tennessee) added.
Johnson’s office could not immediately be reached for comment.
