Mediaite has confirmed that Fox News Media has ended its relationship with Maria Bartiromo and her top producer.This happened after a big report came out about Bartiromo sharing confidential information about how the network covered President Trump with the White House.
This news was first reported by Puck’s Dylan Byers and confirmed by two people close to the situation.
On Thursday, Fox fired Patrick Ignozzi, who was the executive producer of Mornings with Maria on Fox Business.
This follows a major report from Status.
According to Status, Bartiromo’s recent departure from the network was linked to an incident in July.At that time, Fox Business management told senior staff not to support claims made by Trump during a prime-time speech about the 2020 election and China.Status’s Oliver Darcy reported that Bartiromo told the White House about this internal guidance — an action he described as Bartiromo effectively betraying her employer.Byers said Bartiromo took a screenshot of a message from a Fox Business executive to producers, telling them not to pursue a story about China and election conspiracies.She sent that screenshot to senior White House officials.Fox executives found out about Bartiromo’s action after a call from the White House.
Status reported that Bartiromo was fired, though Fox News Media used the term “parting ways” in its release.
The network quickly removed her bio from its website.Her last broadcast was on August 9, about three weeks after Trump’s speech.
Earlier that day, Fox News Media issued a statement thanking Maria for her work over the past 12.5 years and wishing her well in her next chapter.
Status also included a comment from a network spokesperson: “this was a business decision and the release speaks for itself.”
The 2020 election was a big topic for Bartiromo.
Her coverage was central to the defamation claims made by Dominion Voting Systems, which the network settled for $787.5 million in 2023.In December 2020, Bartiromo said on air that an “intel source” told her that “President Trump did in fact win the election.”
