New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman has finally responded to Donald Trump’s latest harsh personal attack on her, and she seems much calmer about the whole thing than he is.
” That’s objectively news,” Haberman said to MS NOW on Saturday morning.
“It wasn’t going to stay a secret.”
The news in question is quite embarrassing for a president who was born and raised in New York: Trump plans to skip the 25th anniversary event for the September 11 attacks at Ground Zero and instead attend a ceremony at the Pentagon.
Haberman’s scoop was that one reason Trump isn’t going to Ground Zero is that he wouldn’t be allowed to speak there.
Trump responded to the story exactly as you would expect:
” Maggot Hagerman, the Fake Reporter from The Failing New York Times, an unattractive person both inside and out,” he raged on Truth Social on Friday night.
Yes, a sexist old man in his 80s is once again criticizing a woman’s looks.
We think the guy who does his hair in the world’s most ridiculous combover and uses ladies’ bronzer on his face should stop giving beauty scores like he does for underage contestants in his beauty pageants of the past.
He also called Haberman a “stalker” and demanded that she “be forced to turn over any and all money that she’s made through her fake reporting on me.”
(” Any and all money.” What a jerk.
Seriously.)
He also threatened the Times with legal action and attacked Haberman’s use of confidential sources, claiming that if she ever had to reveal them, “you will find out they either don’t exist, or didn’t say what she reported.”
When asked about the attack, “Maggot” as usual didn’t take the bait.
“We were quite transparent with them about what we were reporting, including the part about why he wasn’t going to New York,” she said, noting that the Times supports the story.
“Then 24 hours later, the president started attacking the piece.”
The White House has since given another explanation: that Trump will attend the Pentagon ceremony because Vice President J.D.
Vance will be at Ground Zero, and security rules prevent the president and vice president from appearing together in public.
But wait— weren’t they together in public for Lindsey Graham’s funeral just a month ago?
Whatever …
The real point is that Trump’s attack on Haberman’s appearance, income, and use of confidential sources doesn’t refute her reporting.
It mostly shows how angry he is that she reported it, and what a childish and terrible person he is.
And kudos to Haberman for staying so calm through the whole thing.
We suppose raising three kids while doing a job where the phone rings at any hour of the day or night.She might just be too busy, or too tired, to care whether an old man with an old-fashioned view of women thinks she’s pretty.
Haberman has faced criticism over the years for what critics call “access journalism,” and we could argue whether her close ties to Trump’s inner circle sometimes come at a cost.
Being called “Maggot” and “unattractive…
inside and out” by the president of the United States for reporting something he didn’t want reported shouldn’t be one of them.
