Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has asked FBI Director Kash Patel to resign right away, saying his behavior is “erratic” and not fit for the job.
Schumer criticized Patel on X, posting an article from The Atlantic that talked about Patel’s actions.
He wrote, “Kash Patel is completely out of control and not fit to be FBI Director. Every day he holds that position is a risk to law enforcement and our country. He needs to resign immediately.”
The article, published on Friday, described an incident where Patel thought he had been fired and quickly called his allies and staff.
It was later found out to be a mistake.
The Atlantic reporting confirms what we’ve known for months: Kash Patel is an out of control imbecile completely unfit to serve as FBI Director.

The report says Patel, who has been in the role for 14 months, is “erratic, distrustful of others, and tends to jump to conclusions without enough proof.”
His behavior has raised concerns among current and former FBI officials, as well as other government members.
The article also mentions Patel’s alleged drinking problems and unexplained absences, which have led to worries about his ability to lead the FBI, especially during times of national security threats.
Patel’s leadership at the FBI has been questioned for a while now.
He was appointed as the ninth director in 2025, but his time in the job has been full of controversy. He has faced criticism for seeming to push the FBI towards Trump’s political goals, and for internal dismissals and concerns about the misuse of agency resources, including travel expenses.
In early April, a prediction market suggested a higher chance of Patel leaving the Trump administration, which could mean he might be next after former Attorney General Pam Bondi was removed.
Patel’s leadership has also come under fire after an Iran-linked hack leaked over 300 of his personal emails and photos.
