Dr. Jonathan Reiner, who was the late vice president’s cardiologist, said, “Despite the White House saying otherwise, at times over the past year, the president has not looked well.”
Reiner added, “I am not Mr.
Trump’s doctor, and I have only looked at the public records. But Mr.Trump is probably the most photographed president in U.S.history, and many of his health issues are clearly visible.”
Reiner made these comments in an article for The New York Times titled “I Was Dick Cheney’s Cardiologist.
Trump Has Not Looked Well, and We Should Know Why.” In the piece, he talked about how past presidents have tried to hide their health problems.
He wrote, “He has had big bruises on both hands, swollen legs, and moments when it looks like he’s struggling to stay awake.
He has also had advanced imaging done for unclear reasons. The public is once again left wondering if the nation’s leader is okay.”
Reiner then suggested a way to force the White House to reveal the truth to the American people.
“The 25th Amendment to the Constitution allows for the best solution to this problem: It lets Congress form a group outside the executive branch to check the president’s health and fitness,” he explained.
Earlier this year, Congressman Jamie Raskin introduced a bill to create such a commission.
Reiner said that ideally, the panel should review data from Trump’s medical exams as well as look into any health problems that happen on their own.Once Democrats take control of Congress in November, they should use their power to get information on this issue.
Reiner also listed specific health issues the panel should examine:
1.
The fact that Trump needed 22 medical specialists to examine him.
2.
The constant bruising on his hands.”It doesn’t seem likely that shaking hands caused the bruises, and it doesn’t explain why his left hand is often also discolored. Also, why would the president take a dose of aspirin four times higher than what is usually recommended by doctors?”
3.
The noticeable swelling in his legs last summer that led to an unexpected medical check-up.
4.
Trump’s difficulty in staying awake, even during important meetings in the Oval Office.
5.
Why did Trump get advanced heart and abdominal imaging at Walter Reed in 2025?Was there a specific concern or event that led to the visit?
6.
Past reports have shown that Trump takes a drug for hair loss, but that drug wasn’t listed in his most recent report. While the specific drug isn’t important, it raises the possibility that the White House is not including other medications in its reports.
7.
Why is Trump constantly taking tests for dementia?
Reiner concluded by saying, “The United States does not have a king, and in a democracy, we deserve to know the truth about our president’s health.”
