Billionaire and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg faced strong criticism this week after reportedly refusing to help the U.S.Coast Guard rescue a boat in need.The Alaska Beacon reported that Zuckerberg’s yacht, the Alaska Beacon, was nearby but didn’t respond when the Coast Guard called for help.
Michael Love, a software developer from New York, shared on social media that he and his son were on a small ship cruise in Alaska.
Their boat saved a stranded vessel last night.Love said the Coast Guard had asked Zuckerberg’s yacht, which was closer, to help, but the yacht didn’t respond.The captain later told everyone about this, and there was a lot of booing from the passengers.
Vessel tracking services checked Love’s story and found it to be accurate.
They confirmed that Zuckerberg’s yacht was stopping outside Farragut Bay, a large bay near Juneau.
Love said the stranded boat had two women, a child, and a dog.
They were running out of gas and going too far.Love and his son gave the boat some gas and helped find a place to stop for the night.
When asked about the yacht’s lack of response, Love was confused.
He said, “If I were Mark Zuckerberg, I would be really happy to help someone in need and maybe get some good publicity too.”
Zuckerberg has been in the news lately for his support of former President Donald Trump.
He had dinner with Trump after the 2024 election and praised Trump’s reaction to an assassination attempt as “bad—.” He also brought Trump’s Facebook account back after it was suspended after the January 6th events.Later, Zuckerberg sat with Trump at a White House dinner where Meta promised at least $600 billion in U.S.infrastructure spending by 2028.In March 2026, Trump added Zuckerberg to his Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
