Jimmy Kimmel got very emotional on Monday night as he strongly criticized the killing of ICU nurse Alex Pretti by Border Patrol agents in Minneapolis and criticized the Trump administration’s response. He also urged MAGA voters to think about what they had supported.
At the start of his show, Kimmel said he had been feeling shocked and upset over the events in Minneapolis over the weekend.
He shared a lot of videos showing families being separated during immigration raids. He described how people, including Americans, were taken from their cars, even kids and babies, and were tear-gassed and taken into custody.
He said, “One horror after another is happening, all done by a group that is poorly trained, led in a shameful way, and wearing masks.”
Kimmel continued, “They are just goons doing terrible, heartless, and even illegal things.
It’s really upsetting to watch, and it’s also very frustrating.”
He turned to the killings of Pretti and Renee Nicole Good, saying, “We see videos of one of our fellow Americans being executed by ICE.
And they won’t even admit it was a mistake. They say the SUV Renee Good was driving was a weapon. They say Alex Pretti had a license to carry a gun in an open-carry state. Well, many of these same people loudly argue about when Kyle Rittenhouse had a gun, a gun that Pretti didn’t even touch or draw. A gun that was taken from him by an agent before he was shot by others. These agents fired 10 times at an ICU nurse. They tell us, ‘Well, it was justified.’”
Kimmel warned that this was a reckoning for those who had voted for Donald Trump: “Is this the law and order you voted for?
If you voted for this? Every day is like a nightmare.”
He went on, “How does this end?
What’s the plan here? Are they just going to keep doing this in every city that didn’t vote for Trump? Does anyone on any side believe this is good leadership? We keep saying we need to find common ground. Can we all agree that peaceful protesters, like moms driving their SUVs after dropping their kids off at school, or a nurse who helped protect someone, don’t deserve to be shot to death on the street by the people we pay to protect us? Can we agree on that?”
As the audience applauded, he told viewers to do their own research, saying, “Where are the reasonable voices on the right?
We don’t have to agree on everything, but come on!”
Kimmel then criticized Fox News, showing clips of hosts discussing the events: “Let’s cut the bullsh*t already, even if it’s Fox, it’s not real news.”
He ended by saying, “If our leaders aren’t even trying to reduce chaos but are instead making it worse, and if our leaders are intentionally creating and encouraging violence and fear, then I hope you will also agree we need new leaders because these are not leaders.”
“And to the people of Minneapolis,” he said, with tears in his eyes and a shaky voice, “To the Pretti family and the Good family and these people who were looking out for their neighbors, we want you to know that we are with you and you are not alone.”
