Chris Madel caused a major problem for the Republican Party’s chances of winning the Minnesota governor race by leaving the race, which was a rare moment of honesty for a conservative.
Madel made a video to explain why he was leaving.
He said, “I love Minnesota.
I was born and raised here. My immediate family lives here. My extended family lives here. It’s my home… But today I’m ending my campaign. I have two main reasons for this. First, I can’t support the national Republican party’s actions that are hurting the people of our state. I can’t be part of a party that does that.”
He continued, “Operation Metro Surge has gone way beyond its original goal of dealing with real public safety issues.
Citizens, especially people of color, are living in fear. People are carrying documents to prove they are American. That’s wrong. ICE allows agents to raid homes using a civil warrant that only needs a border patrol agent’s signature. That’s unconstitutional and wrong.
Using criminal investigations against political opponents is unconstitutional, no matter who is in power.
“
He also added, “I’ve talked to many Americans in Minnesota who have been detained because of their race.
I’ve spoken with several law enforcement officers, some Hispanic and some Asian, who have been pulled over by ICE for unwarranted stops. Driving while Hispanic isn’t a crime. Neither is driving while Asian.”
Finally, he said, “At the end of the day, I have to look my daughters in the eye and tell them I believe I did the right thing.
And I’m doing that today. The second reason I’m ending my campaign is that I’m a pragmatist. The truth is, the national Republicans have made it almost impossible for a Republican to win a statewide race in Minnesota. It’s a simple fact.”
Finding a Republican who has the courage to stand up for what’s right is rarer than finding a four-leaf clover.
Thank you, Chris, for standing up for your state and doing the right thing—despite being wrong about everything else.
Because what he’s right about is that this campaign is really about Donald Trump trying to get revenge on the people of Minnesota because he doesn’t like Tim Walz.
And it’s also because there’s a successful Somali-American community that disproves all of Trump’s false claims about immigrants.
This has nothing to do with immigration enforcement, because red states like Texas and Florida have much larger immigrant communities.
He’s doing this to punish Minnesota for electing Democrats and for living up to the American dream.
And Trump is going to pay for it.
