Johnson’s very narrow margin will stay even narrower for a longer time.
Republican Assemblymember James Gallagher, who is running to replace Congressman Doug LaMalfa, who recently passed away, said, “The Governor could have held the election on June 2nd with the primary on March 31.
Instead, he chose to play national political games and kept the people of the First District without congressional representation for at least two more months than necessary.”
Newsom has scheduled the special election for August 4th, which is the latest possible date under state law.
That means the primary will be on June 2nd. If no single candidate gets more than 50% of the votes in the primary, the special general election will take place on August 4th.
With LaMalfa’s death and Marjorie Taylor Greene’s resignation, Speaker Johnson now has just a three-vote majority in the House.
That means even a small number of Republicans switching sides could stop him from passing government funding or advancing MAGA legislation.
If conservatives are saying a strategic move is “unfair” in today’s political environment, that’s a strong sign it’s actually a smart move.
We have a crazy, illegal, and dangerous leader in the White House who is invading other countries while his masked followers are killing innocent mothers on our streets. Being nice and fair won’t help us. We need to be tough and ruthless in our politics if we want to save this country from MAGA.
Moves like this is why Gavin Newsom is seen by many as the top Democratic candidate for president in 2028.
He’s aware of the threat from the Republican Party and is ready to do whatever it takes to win.
