Journalist Jim Acosta criticized Donald Trump and his selected Kennedy Center board on Thursday, expressing concern that their latest effort to put Trump’s name on the building might result in serious legal issues.
The situation started when a federal judge previously ordered Trump’s name to be removed from the Kennedy Center’s exterior.
Rather than obeying quietly, workers simply covered the name with a tarp. Now, the board has taken it further, deciding to add new text under the main sign that says, “Restored and Renovated by President Donald J.Trump.” The New York Times refers to this as an “aggressive test” of the judge’s order, with the board telling officials to act using “all legal means.”
Acosta was clearly upset.
“It’s absolutely crazy to have the Kennedy Center board vote to put Trump’s name on the building beneath the main sign!” he said.”Something needs to be done.”
He continued, “If they start carving Trump’s name into the side of that building—or making changes to the sign in defiance of a judge’s order—somebody needs to end up in jail!
And we know it won’t be Trump because he will do everything to avoid that. But those on the Kennedy Center board and the workers doing the job should know that you’re not allowed to use a chisel on the Kennedy Center and put that crazy person’s name on the side of that building!”
Acosta also explained why this is important beyond the legal aspects.
“It is not his building! It was never named in his honor.” He called the Kennedy Center “one of our cultural icons,” and warned that Trump’s actions of putting his name on a memorial for John F.Kennedy, a real U.S.president, would be a real act of disrespect. He referred to Trump as “this reality TV game show, dime-store Richard Nixon who wants to act like a crook and thinks he can get away with it all the time.”
Acosta was clear: those on the board and the construction crews who defy the judge’s order are not only making a big mistake, they are risking real legal consequences just to satisfy one man’s ego.
While we hope that they face the consequences, we also know they’re all just one Trump pardon away from going free.
This is how justice works in the age of the orange criminal.
