FBI Director Kash Patel, who has been in the news for some strange actions, caused a big reaction on Sunday by making an unusual comment about the sudden death of Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina.
Patel, who had made some controversial social media posts earlier in the week, including one with strong language about a wealthy lifestyle that upset some top Senate Republicans, posted another message on X.
In it, he said, “Senator Lindsey Graham was a loyal public servant, a strong protector of our country, and a real patriot who gave his life to the people of South Carolina and the United States.”
He also added, “The FBI is helping local authorities and has provided all the necessary support.”
This made many people wonder, as asked by U.S.
News & World Report’s senior political correspondent Olivier Knox, “Why is the FBI involved?”
Patel didn’t explain his comment right away, and CBS News reporter Jennifer Jacobs thought it was important enough to share with her followers.
Patel’s comments came just hours after Graham’s office announced that the senator died Saturday night from a “sudden and brief illness.”
A veteran journalist named Dave Statter later shared audio from emergency services that showed Graham had chest pain before going into cardiac arrest.
“Emergency radio traffic indicates that Senator Lindsey Graham suffered chest pains before going into cardiac arrest Saturday night,” Statter wrote on X.
“Efforts to revive the South Carolina lawmaker were not successful.
Graham died two days after his 71st birthday.”
However, some people, especially those from the MAGA group, didn’t believe the simple explanation that a 71-year-old man who made many long trips by plane had a heart attack.
They suggested, without proof, that Graham’s recent trip to Ukraine meant that he was a target of Russian sabotage.
This is the context in which Patel said the FBI was involved without giving a reason.
The reactions to his statement show how people are responding.
“Russian Operatives?” asked X user Nana Lady Katie.
“Probably not happy with Grahams support for Ukraine.”
“Sudden illness, in a U.S.
senator who has access to the best health care available,” replied another named Tom.”I’m not buying it.”
“IS ANYONE CHECKING TO SEE IF SENATOR GRAHAM WAS POISONED BY RUSSIA ?” X user Jerry L.
Wolf demanded.”PRETTY CURIOUS TIMING AS HE WAS JUST IN UKRAINE HELPING THEM DEFEAT RUSSIA !”
Another shared the latest conspiracy theory from Laura Loomer that starts with the words, “MUST READ!”
Political commentator Rogue POTUS Staff looked at the comments and wrote a direct message to Patel.
“Kash, this is so damn reckless,” the commenter said.
“There’s absolutely no good reason for you to say this. But you desperately need attention and you can’t seem to get it through your head that it takes more than social media likes to be good at your job.”
