Donald Trump can’t stop thinking about Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni since she publicly rebuked his remarks last month and made him look bad.
On Sunday evening, the president set aside his official duties long enough to share a photo of Meloni on Truth Social.
The image showed the small Italian leader looking up at him with a warm smile.
Above the photo was a message that read:
“Restraining order needed.”
This strange and unexpected post comes just weeks after a very public disagreement between the two leaders.
Earlier, Trump had praised Meloni, calling her a “beautiful young woman” and often mentioning her as one of his favorite European leaders.
However, their relationship turned sour when Trump bizarrely claimed she kept taking photos with him at the G7 summit and suggested she wanted to mend their friendship to increase her popularity in Italy.
Meloni didn’t let his comments slide.
She called his “constant, unprovoked attacks” “senseless” and dismissed his claims about her political position.
She responded, “As for my popularity, being your friend has certainly not helped it, nor does it depend on my relationship with you.
My popularity is none of your concern.I suggest you focus on yours.”
For most world leaders, that would have been the end of the matter.
But Trump had one more message to send.
The “restraining order needed” comment is especially odd, considering Trump had previously claimed Meloni was the one trying to get his attention.
If that were true, many people are wondering why the president is still talking about her weeks later.
