Donald Trump recently spoke to The Axios Show and said there are “no limits” to his power — right in the same conversation where he admitted his war with Iran could have caused a major global economic disaster if he hadn’t made a deal.
The contradiction is really shocking.
When asked what he learned about the limits of his power from the Iran war, Trump said, “There are no limits.” When pressed further, he insisted even more, saying, “I haven’t learned that lesson yet.
I know there are, but there are no limits.”
A president openly saying he sees no limits to his power isn’t showing strength.
It’s the kind of language used by someone who wants to take over everything.
But here’s where Trump gave himself away.
While talking about “unconditional surrender” and saying “we defeated them totally militarily,” he accidentally showed why he had to settle for a weak deal instead of the “maximalist” victory he promised before starting the war.
He said, “The only way I can get tougher is if I go in there for another two or three weeks and keep bombing them.
But what does that get us?The Strait of Hormuz will not be open.We wouldn’t have oil for months.”
Then he added the real kicker: “This is the kind of thing that could cause a worldwide depression.”
So let’s be clear about what Trump just confirmed.
He started a war.He bragged about a blockade. And then he had to rush to make a deal — giving Iran billions while leaving its nuclear program untouched — because continuing the war would have raised oil prices, cut off global supply, and possibly caused a global economic crash.
Sources say Trump privately feared that global oil reserves were running out.
That’s why he made the deal that Mike Pence called “appeasement,” and a former NATO ambassador called temporary and meaningless.
A man who claims there are “no limits” and got cornered by the very war he started.
A man bragging about “unconditional surrender” while admitting he had to back down to avoid a depression.
Trump’s bravado is just a fake cover.
The reality is a president who’s way out of his depth.
