Philip Alito, the son of the far-right Justice Samuel Alito, was appointed as a lawyer at the Treasury Department early in Trump’s second term. His father knew about this appointment and didn’t try to stop it, which isn’t surprising since Alito seems uninterested in avoiding conflicts of interest or keeping the court’s reputation intact.
This is the same Samuel Alito who was found to have accepted bribes from billionaire Paul Singer, receiving luxury jet trips and an expensive fishing vacation.
And that’s only what we know so far.
According to NOTUS, four government officials confirmed that Alito’s son is working in the office of the general counsel, which assists Treasury Secretary Bessent.
Notus called this situation a “closely guarded secret.”
Philip Alito, in a move to stay out of the spotlight, does not have a public resume, a LinkedIn profile, or a presence on the Treasury Department’s website.
Most pictures of him online are old, from when his father was first appointed to the court. He’s like a ghost in the system, earning money from our tax dollars, and likely giving advice to his father to influence decisions in Trump’s favor.
“Everyone knew who he was.
I think it’s fair to say he kept a pretty low profile. I got the impression he felt a bit shy about being related to someone famous. In meetings, while others introduced themselves fully, he would just say ‘Phil,’ not Phil Alito. He’s quite soft-spoken,” one official remarked.
The attempts to keep his identity hidden from both the public and his colleagues show that he knows what he’s doing is wrong.
If there was nothing to hide, he wouldn’t need to keep such a low profile. But Alito, and probably his father, recognize that this appointment harms the already fragile credibility of the Supreme Court.
“There’s no doubt he got that position because of who he is,” another official told NOTUS.
“[Advisers] are in all the meetings, so they were aware of all the issues involved.”
It’s also concerning that the younger Alito was working at the Treasury while the court made decisions on Trump’s tariffs.
Although the administration eventually lost, Justice Alito sided with Brett Kavanaugh to support Trump. He never mentioned in court documents that his son was working for one side, nor did he step back from the case. The administration claims that the younger Alito had no role in this case, but this White House is known for being dishonest.
The situation hasn’t improved at all.
Trump’s $1.776 billion fund for January 6th rioters, MAGA supporters, and Republican offenders is currently facing numerous lawsuits. When one of these cases eventually reaches the Supreme Court, Justice Alito will again be making decisions on a matter where his son has a stake in the outcome.
These wrongdoers are mocking us as they fill their pockets, manipulate the system, and prepare their children to do the same.
Phillip Alito should be fired, and Samuel Alito should be impeached!
