Former congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who used to support President Donald Trump but now disagrees with him, said the Republican Party needs to start fresh because too many lawmakers are too loyal to Israel. She made these comments during a conversation with conspiracy theorist Alex Jones on his podcast, InfoWars, on Wednesday.
Greene said the current Republican Party can’t work with Trump as its leader, calling him a “cult” figure, and she criticized lawmakers who are “controlled by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.”
She argued that the party as it is now is too controlled and needs to be completely rebuilt.
Greene, who promotes the idea of “America First,” has accused Trump of putting the U.S. interests aside to fight wars with Israel in the Middle East.
She also criticized people who still support Trump’s agenda, even though Trump promised not to start any wars.
She said, “We want to cheer and root for America, but you don’t have to be in a cult where you can’t call it out.”
She said the party has become like a cult.
Greene claimed that Trump’s history of being attacked by lawmakers, going through legal battles, and being impeached created a group of supporters who feel an unbreakable loyalty to him.
She accused Fox News of spreading “propaganda” to keep people, especially baby boomers, loyal to Trump by presenting false information.
She said it was wrong for Trump supporters not to criticize the president’s actions.
Greene used to be one of Trump’s strongest supporters, but her views have changed since she had a disagreement with Trump earlier this year that led to her leaving the House of Representatives.
Trump said he would no longer back her as a Republican representative after she pushed for the release of the Epstein files.
Since then, she has accused Trump of being mentally unstable, especially after he threatened to destroy the Iranian civilization unless the Iranian government opened the Strait of Hormuz.
Greene said, “The truth is, you may have supported President Trump for 10 years like I did and like you have.
But this is not the same man. This is not the same man that we supported.”
Other former Trump allies, including Jones, former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, and political commentator Candace Owens, have also distanced themselves from Trump and criticized his decision to go to war with Iran.
Greene and Jones said they would keep criticizing Trump in the hope that others will follow them.
Greene said a new Republican Party could be formed, but she said these new candidates shouldn’t take money from AIPAC or people who support AIPAC closely.
She insisted her comments aren’t antisemitic because they’re about the “secular government of Israel,” not Jewish people.
However, she has a long history of making antisemitic comments, such as promoting a conspiracy theory that Jewish people control a space laser that starts wildfires, and comparing the Holocaust to wearing masks during the coronavirus pandemic.
On X, Greene pushed for the idea of a new Republican Party and told Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna, “We need a strong populist coalition of the right and left that can come together on the most important issues for the future generations of Americans.”
She added, “For the sake of my children’s generation, I’m willing to come together, go to the whiteboard, and begin to try to sketch something new.”
