Spain’s rockstar president, Pedro Sánchez, is not letting Donald Trump off the hook for bringing the world to the edge of disaster. In a sharp response to Trump’s announcement of a ceasefire, Sánchez expressed what many around the world were thinking.
Sánchez said that while ceasefires are always good news—especially if they lead to a just and lasting peace—this momentary relief shouldn’t make us forget the chaos, destruction, and lives lost.
He added, “Ceasefires are always good news.
Especially if they lead to a just and lasting peace. But this momentary relief cannot make us forget the chaos, the destruction, and the lives lost.”
He continued, “The Government of Spain will not applaud those who set the world on fire just because they show up with a bucket.”
Sánchez stressed that what is needed now is diplomacy, international legality, and peace.
We cannot forget that all of this—thousands of lives lost, buildings and historic sites destroyed, hospitals and universities ruined, oil refineries damaged, and billions of US taxpayer dollars wasted—was all because of Trump.
None of this had to happen.
And as if it wasn’t already clear, Trump has cemented his legacy as the worst president in American history.
EDITOR’S NOTE: In Spain, the Prime Minister is called the President of the Government, though it is a Prime Minister-type role.
