Barkley started by saying, “I want to be really careful with what I say right now. Okay. Because this is a really sensitive topic for me. I really love that kid and his family.” He was talking about college basketball star Alex Karaban, whose parents are immigrants.
“But the way some immigrants are being treated in our country right now is really bad and shameful,” he said.
“I think there’s a difference between really good immigrants and those who are criminals,” he added.
As many news reports have shown, Trump’s promise to only target violent criminals was not true.
Instead, his ICE officers have been attacking innocent families and hardworking people in our communities to increase the number of deportations and please his base of white nationalists.
“And I think what’s going on in our country, the way we’re treating some of these amazing immigrants, is really unfortunate and very sad,” Barkley continued.
“That’s a great immigrant story. There are a lot of great immigrant stories out there. These stories need to be shared.”
“But some of the things that are happening to immigrants right now are really bad and unfair,” he went on. “
But immigrants helped build this country, and we should respect and admire them.”
Barkley made these bold comments while speaking on stage with Bruce Pearl, a strong Trump supporter and former Auburn coach.
Pearl is very pro-MAGA and has even supported Trump’s illegal war in Iran, which resulted in the deaths of many children. Barkley knew who was in the room with him and still chose to speak out.
Additionally, CBS Sports is owned by Paramount Skydance, which is run by David Ellison, a known MAGA supporter.
Ellison also put Bari Weiss at CBS News to influence the news coverage to be more pro-Trump and pro-Israel. By speaking this way with honesty and compassion, Barkley was risking his job. He should be praised for his courage!

Charles Barkley spoke the absolute truth. There is a huge difference between the immigrants who are grateful to be, observe laws (which is definitely something The Felon in our White House has never done his entire adult life!), and are willing to work hard for being here.
