Bacon’s criticism of Hegseth is especially notable because he spent 29 years in the U.S.
Air Force before becoming a member of Congress.No matter what people think of his political views, it’s clear that the health, efficiency, and strength of our military are very important to him.
Yesterday, Tillis made a strong statement on X calling for Hegseth to be removed from his position, even though he had originally voted to confirm him.
Unlike many of his MAGA allies, Tillis isn’t running for reelection, so he feels more comfortable speaking out about the tough issues others are hesitant to address.

Driscoll resigned on Monday, Tillis thanked him for his leadership and service to the United States.Driscoll’s departure happened amid a growing conflict with Hegseth, who had recently removed experienced and high-ranking Army leaders as part of an ideological purge.
“Had we had a @SecWar who shared the same priorities and had a forward-thinking approach, he would be fighting to keep talented leaders like Dan and the many flag officers he has forced into retirement.
Instead, he is causing a leadership vacuum at the top of our military,” wrote Tillis.
“I served on the Senate Armed Services Committee for 8 years and was either the chair or ranking member of the Personnel and Readiness subcommittee,” he continued.
“I have never seen such poor management of the brave men and women who serve our country.He is afraid of competent people and instead focuses on creating culture wars, rather than taking the serious and responsible approach needed for our national defense and the well-being of our troops.”
The choice of words is intentional.
The terms “ginning” and “soberly” clearly reference Hegseth’s alcohol issues.Tillis is suggesting that the problem is even worse than what the public knows, which could help explain Hegseth’s unpredictable behavior.
“I urge the President to find a new leader at the Pentagon who will keep and strengthen our military talent rather than weaken it,” Tillis concluded.
As more Republicans join the group opposing Hegseth, the pressure on Trump to blame him for the failed Iran War will increase.
Hegseth has done little during his time as Defense Secretary, and has instead weakened America, used up our most important weapons in a pointless war on Israel’s behalf, and caused the deaths of many women and children.History will remember him as a foolish, drunken monster.
