Pam Bondi has found herself at the center of a rapidly escalating controversy following reports of her removal from office and her handling of the Epstein files. While the Department of Justice reportedly informed the House Oversight Committee in April that Bondi was no longer required to testify after her dismissal, lawmakers moved forward anyway, arguing she was still accountable for how the Epstein investigation was handled during her time in office.
According to Foreign Policy Journal, Bondi later appeared at a high-profile House Oversight Committee field hearing in West Palm Beach, Florida, where she was met with sharp questioning from lawmakers, survivors, and legal representatives. The hearing focused heavily on allegations that the DOJ under her leadership failed to properly handle and disclose critical information related to Jeffrey Epstein’s network.
Epstein survivors, along with their attorney Gloria Allred, accused Bondi of protecting powerful individuals instead of ensuring transparency and justice. Allred criticized what she described as selective redactions of key names linked to Epstein, arguing that victims’ trust had been severely damaged by the department’s actions.
The situation intensified further after Bondi failed to appear for a scheduled deposition on April 14. Democrats maintained that her termination did not remove her legal obligation to comply with a congressional subpoena, while Republican members later confirmed she would be required to testify before the full committee on May 29.

Representative Robert Garcia condemned Bondi’s refusal to appear, stating:
“Pam Bondi has illegally defied their committee’s official subpoena for court appearance and skipped her deposition, also adding that she has refused to cooperate. It also explained, We have introduced a contempt resolution to hold her accountable.”
Bondi had previously defended the DOJ’s handling of the Epstein files during a February 2026 hearing, where she faced criticism from Democrats but continued to support the department’s approach while praising President Donald Trump.
Her dismissal was announced by Trump in an April 2 Truth Social post, coming after months of growing political pressure and public backlash over the DOJ’s handling of Epstein-related investigations and document releases.
Despite leaving office, Bondi remains entangled in the ongoing fallout, as lawmakers signal that additional officials connected to the Epstein investigation could soon face subpoenas and public scrutiny as the probe continues to expand.
