Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) found an unexpected positive in her big loss in Tuesday’s Republican primary for governor in South Carolina.
Mace decided not to run for reelection in the House so she could try to become the next governor of South Carolina.
But voters didn’t support her, and she ended up in fifth place. She had hoped to get support from former President Donald Trump, but he instead backed Lt. Governor Pamela Evette. Evette will now face South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson in the general election since neither candidate got more than half the votes.
On Thursday, Mace posted on X saying she would get back at Trump because of her loss.
“People keep asking me: ‘Will you get revenge on Trump for ending your political career?
’” she wrote. “The answer is yes. I’ll be adding to the unemployment number in January.”
Mace has been critical of Trump from time to time.
She was one of a few Republicans who pushed for a vote on a bill requiring the Department of Justice to release all its files on the late child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. She has also raised concerns about Trump’s actions in Iran.
Two weeks ago, Mace tried to stop Trump from supporting Evette by saying Evette didn’t have Trump’s endorsement.
“Pamela Evette is NOT ENDORSED by DONALD TRUMP,” Mace tweeted.
“Do not believe her LIES.”
The post included an AI-generated video of Trump and Mace giving the thumbs up.
Hours later, Trump officially endorsed Evette.
