Ken Paxton’s Senate race is in trouble as over 20 Republican leaders support James Talarico.A former Texas Ranger explains why he changed his mind.
Donald Trump tried to help Ken Paxton, a Republican Senate candidate in Texas, by holding a rally that looked like a political event.
But no matter how much Trump tried to make Paxton look better, even some of his own party members are now backing Talarico, the Democratic opponent.
Yesterday, the Talarico campaign shared a list of more than 20 Republican leaders who are choosing to support Talarico instead of Paxton.
These are former officials who are standing up against Paxton, who is known for being loyal to Trump and MAGA.Paxton was even impeached by his own party, but somehow stayed in office.
The list includes:

David Maxwell, the last person on the list, recently talked about why he decided to support Talarico.
“I spoke with James Talarico for two hours,” Maxwell said.
“I thought about him afterward.First, I saw no dishonesty.He answered all my tough questions.He didn’t avoid anything.He didn’t give me the Texas two-step when I asked a hard question.He didn’t go around and never answer.He answered straight.”
“He came into this campaign with a strong sense of service,” Maxwell continued.
“He was a teacher.My mother was a teacher.I have granddaughters who are teachers.Both my wife and I have spent our lives serving Texas.That means a lot to me.That means something.”
Maxwell, a law and order Republican, believes character matters more than politics.
He thinks Paxton’s character makes him unsuitable for any public office.
“You know, in my business, in my experience, it means a lot to see someone who is genuine,” he explained.
“I’ve been around politicians my whole life.I’ve served five governors.I’ve met and worked with four presidents.They’re all interested in Texas Rangers.But I say that to show you this.He’s so different from the people I’ve met in politics.I think he needs to go to Washington, D.C., and Ken Paxton needs to go home.”
