George Clooney made some strong comments about the current political situation in the United States during a big event at the Venice Film Festival.He was there on Wednesday, September 2, for the opening day of the festival.He received the Golden Lion award for his career, which was given by his friend and occasional movie partner, Laura Dern.His wife, Amal Clooney, who is a human rights lawyer, was with him at the event, and they both walked the red carpet together.

He discussed several topics, including artificial intelligence in Hollywood, the merger between Paramount and Warner Bros., and the state of American politics.When asked directly about his views on the United States today, George was not shy about criticizing Donald Trump and his administration.He has been a vocal critic of Trump and has said a lot about the president over the years.
George started by saying, “Look, I’m always very optimistic about things, and I do believe that there are—we’re at a moment in time that’s unfortunate,” and added, “I think that’s an understatement.” Even though he was concerned, he still believed that Americans would be able to get through the current issues.
He used the example of 1968, a very difficult year in the United States, when many cities were in chaos, both Martin Luther King Jr.
and Bobby Kennedy were assassinated, and tanks were in the capital.George said, “We’ve had some other difficult times, but this is one of them.There’s a great word, kakistocracy, which is a country run by the least qualified people,” and added, “I think maybe we have a kakistocracy right now.” But he also said that they will get through it.
George also talked about the upcoming midterm elections in November, calling them a chance to check and balance things.
He said he hopes the 2028 presidential election could bring back some normalcy to the country.
He directly criticized Trump and his administration, saying, “The idea that cruelty is the base, that being cruel and unkind is part of the fun of all this.” He specifically pointed out a controversial post from Pete Hegseth, the Defense Secretary.
Hegseth shared a screenshot of two female cadets from Vernon Cadet Training Center on Instagram on September 1.
Hegseth added a Canadian flag emoji and wrote “this is real” in parentheses.
The post was widely criticized, with Hegseth facing a lot of backlash for mocking and bodyshaming the cadets.
George said the post made people ask, “What’s wrong with you?
Where is the sense of decency in all this?” He also said he was “ashamed of all of that.” However, he still believed that America would get through this period and “come out better on the other side.”
