CNN’s Kaitlan Collins asked El-Sayed, “The Vice President himself called you out today for what you said about his wife, Usha Vance, someone you’ve mentioned a couple of times.Do you think spouses, especially political spouses who aren’t running for office, should be off-limits?”
El-Sayed responded, “I’d prefer not to talk about spouses at all.
The truth is, Donald Trump, almost as soon as I was nominated, tweeted a picture of me and my wife next to him and his wife, trying to make a point about my wife wearing a hijab, as if that made her less American.”
He continued, “There’s an interesting dynamic here.
Trump says one thing, like talking about data centers, or tweets a picture of my wife, and then J.D.Vance acts like it would be impossible for anyone to do something like that.I want them to actually face up to their own hypocrisy.”
Then he really made a strong point about J.D.’s cowardice.
He said, “The point I’ve been making about his wife is that he believes in a political idea that says some people are more American than others.
Last week, he said he wanted to have a conversation with his grandpa, a person I know has long since passed.”
He asked, “Why would you bring up your long-dead grandfather to make an argument about me if you’re not trying to take us back to a time when people like me weren’t considered normal?”
He then asked, “But that raises another question — who else might not be considered normal in that kind of America?
Who else might not be included in the bigger picture of who can be an American?”
He went on, “I believe in an America where anyone, including me, his wife, or anyone with different skin color or who worships differently, can be just as American as J.D.
and his grandfather.But he’s not making that argument.He likes to use subtle, indirect messages, but when you actually call him out on it, he acts like he would never bring up such topics in political discussions, even though he and his boss do it every single day.”
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
Despite Vance having an Indian American wife and biracial children, he’s a loyal follower of MAGA, a movement rooted in white nationalism and Christian theocracy.
And El-Sayed is right — Vance constantly downplays what Trump says and does.
He lacks the courage to condemn his boss’s many terrible comments, so he uses vague language and reinterprets them.The man is truly spineless.
