Kaitlan Collins said President Donald Trump will fight harder than he did before if he is impeached again. She made this comment while talking on a podcast called Pivot with Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway. She discussed what might happen if Democrats gain control of the House and maybe the Senate. It’s harder for them to win the Senate, but some races are changing. For example, the Cook Political Report recently changed the Texas race from leaning Republican to a toss-up, and the Iowa race from toss-up to leaning Democrat. In July, they also changed Alaska from leaning Republican to a toss-up.
Swisher mentioned that Jared Kushner met with Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries to find common ground.
She thinks Trump, who is 80 years old, might work with Democrats and try to change his image. Collins had a different opinion. She said if the midterms don’t go Trump’s way, it would be a very different time for the Trump presidency. She explained that this is her prediction based on what she has heard from reporting. She said it’s an educated guess, but in political reporting, you can’t predict too much. You have to wait and see. She thinks Congress might not handle oversight the same way as before and that Trump really hates being impeached. Even though he expects it again, he might push back more than before from the DOJ and the White House.
Collins also said the political scene would be much different if Democrats win and start investigations.
She isn’t sure it will be the same as the first time. In his first term, Trump was impeached twice—first for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, then for incitement of insurrection after January 6th.Since taking office, Democratic lawmakers have introduced at least three House impeachment resolutions. One mentions abuse of power by calling for the execution of members of Congress and intimidating federal judges. Another lists 13 articles, including the militarization of domestic law enforcement, unconstitutional detentions and deportations, and retaliation against protected speech or association.
On Monday, Texas Rep.
Al Green, who started one of these resolutions last year, filed another one. Swisher argued that Trump knows his time is limited because of poor polling and the ongoing Iran war, which has been going on for seven months. She said Trump might not back down, even if he gets challenged. She called him a bully who might not stop when he’s pushed. Trump, in an interview earlier this month with Punchbowl News, didn’t seem to understand why anyone would want him impeached and removed. He said it’s hard to believe anyone would do that and exaggerated his achievements. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
