Fox News commentator Jessica Tarlov, who leans liberal, gave a strong critique of Karoline Leavitt, the outgoing White House press secretary. She first praised Leavitt for handling one of the toughest jobs in Washington, especially with two young kids, before turning to the damage Leavitt caused during her time on the job.
Tarlov said she didn’t think there was anything strange about Leavitt leaving after 19 months, pointing out that press secretaries usually don’t stay long—especially when they have young kids to take care of.
But when it came to Leavitt’s job performance, Tarlov wasn’t very kind.
She said Leavitt had proven herself to the president by doing his bidding well.”She dodges, she attacks, she obfuscates,” Tarlov said.
Tarlov also wasn’t impressed by the positive reviews Leavitt has gotten from conservatives.
She argued that much of Leavitt’s tough behavior was just demeaning the press and treating journalists asking normal questions like they were crazy.
Then she listed some of the outrageous things Leavitt said without batting an eye.
For example, she claimed the U.S.was spending $50 million on condoms in Gaza, insisted the Epstein files were a “Democratic hoax,” and denied sharing war plans in a chat that accidentally included journalist Jeffrey Goldberg.
She also pointed out Leavitt’s claim that the Trump administration made America more affordable, before making it clear she had more to say and could go on for a while.
“That’s just a small little list,” Tarlov said.
Finally, someone pointed out that Leavitt was good at her job—but that job was misleading the American people, especially the seniors who watch Fox.
The role of a White House press secretary is to stand in front of reporters and answer questions on behalf of the president and his team.
Under Trump, attacking reporters and discrediting tough questions became a key part of the job.
By that standard, Leavitt definitely showed she could do Trump’s bidding.
Good for her, and good riddance.
