Paul said, “I believe the war with Iran hasn’t been a success.I’ve always been against it.In my opinion, we’re in a worse situation now than we were before the war started.”
CNN’s Manu Raju asked, “How do you think voters would react if the GOP Congress approved $70 billion or so for Iran before the midterms?”
Rand replied, “Most people are mad about how much everything costs, especially when they see gas prices going up.
But it’s not just about gas—it’s everywhere.”
This week, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said that Trump’s war has already cost $37.5 billion so far, and that number is likely much higher.
NBC News reported that internal Defense Department estimates put the cost as high as $100 billion.
Hegseth is asking for an extra $67 billion in additional funding to keep the war going.
That money would add to the $1.5 trillion Trump wants for the Defense Department for the 2027 fiscal year.
These people yell at you for suggesting Medicare For All, but they spend huge amounts to bomb children in Iran because of Israel’s desire to expand its territory.
Paul said, “I’m against the war for many reasons, but I’m also against increasing the national debt.
I have to consider what this war is doing to people who are struggling to feed their families.”
Working-class Americans are really struggling because of this war.
Grocery and gas prices are way too high, which hurts people’s ability to pay rent or afford healthcare.It’s a chain of financial problems caused by a war that was started on false excuses.Iran wasn’t trying to build nuclear weapons, and our own intelligence agencies have admitted that.
Raju asked, “Will there be backlash in November?”
Paul answered, “Probably.”
Paul said, “If you look at the militarization of the Strait of Hormuz, that’s never happened before.
There’s no easy way to de-militarize it.From that point of view, I think we’re in a worse position.”
His analysis is correct.
Before the war, Iran didn’t have direct control of the Strait of Hormuz, through which 20% of the world’s oil and 20% of liquefied natural gas flow.Now, because of Trump, Iran has moved from a regional power to a global one.They have never been more powerful or secure militarily.The U.S.has shown it can’t defeat Tehran through bombing, which means Iran holds all the power now.
The only way out of this mess is for Trump to admit he’s lost, step back, and offer the concessions Iran wants.
The longer he waits, the worse the global economy will get.
