Donald Trump’s attempt to get himself and his associates a big payout from taxpayers has ended in failure.A judge has stopped the “settlement” that Trump’s lawyers negotiated with his legal team, and the judge was very clear about it.The court said the case was started for the wrong reason—to make it look like a real legal settlement when there was no real legal or factual basis for it.
The judge said the huge payment the parties planned was for claims that were never actually discussed in court and are still unclear.
It’s meant for people who weren’t even part of the case, and their future legal rights have nothing to do with what’s happening here.
Worse, the judge noted that Todd Blanche’s comments showed the two sides were working together, not against each other.
The judge wrote that Blanche acted like he could speak for both sides, which makes it clear they were on the same team from the start.
And then there’s Scott McFarlane’s comment that the judge is opening the door to punishing Trump’s lawyers.
This whole settlement was a blatant abuse of public funds, meant to reward people who tried to destroy our democracy.
They should all be taken to court and punished for even suggesting this idea, let alone trying to make it happen.
