Jimmy Kimmel made fun of President Donald Trump’s special gold coin, which is being sold for almost $12,000. The coin is being sold ahead of the UFC Freedom 250 event and the country’s 250th birthday.
During his show’s opening bit on Wednesday night, Kimmel talked about the coin and the terms that come with it.
The coin is part of a deal made through the Trump Organization.
He said, “It just so happens that the Trump family is offering a special commemorative coin with his picture on it for this UFC event for the low, low price of only $11,999.”
On screen, Kimmel showed a picture of the coin.
It has the president’s image and says it’s a 1-ounce pure PF70-rated gold coin. He joked, “You can see it’s a beautiful coin. ‘Julius UF Caesar’ is pictured. This is 1 ounce of pure PF70-rated gold.”
He added, “Just to compare, an ounce of PF70-rated gold without his picture on it usually costs about $4,500.
So this is a deal,” he laughed.
But Kimmel had the most fun pointing out the fine print.
He read aloud, “If you read the fine print, which they would prefer you do not do, you will learn that the coin is ‘intended for individual enjoyment only and not for investment purposes.’” He continued, “‘This is not political, has nothing to do with any political campaign.’ ‘It is not legal tender and has no face value.’”
He joked, “You really have to hand it to Trump.
I mean, it takes a special kind of con man to sell your supporters money they can’t spend anywhere.”
He also brought up a statement from the White House saying the Trump family isn’t making money off an event that was forced onto the White House grounds.
Kimmel read a statement from White House spokesperson Davis Ingle, who told people pushing “fake news” about “conflict of interest” to get a “Trump Bible.”
He responded with, “Repent, for only $59.99.”
