In response to Donald Trump’s vile, context-free attack on her and Somalia yesterday, where he called it a “filthy, dirty, disgusting” place full of crime, where “all they do is run around shooting each other,” then baselessly accused her (again) of marrying her brother and called her “despicable,” (a word we’d like to see him try to spell).
“This unhinged rant would solicit anger if it wasn’t coming from a criminal, who has 34 felony convictions, held accountable for rape and accused of being a pedo,” Omar responded.
“The pedophile protection party should find new material for their deflection.”
Sick burn, but she’s absolutely right that Trump is repeating the same old racist, xenophobic tropes over and over to diminishing returns from his dwindling flock of MAGA rubes.
Trump didn’t bring up Somalia because of any policy discussion.
He did it for the same tired reason he always does, that is to say pure racism in the service of riling up his audience of senior citizens by painting a Black Muslim congresswoman as a foreigner who doesn’t belong here.
Omar is done letting him get away with it.
Behind the wit, she is pulling back the curtain on Trump’s tired vaudevillian act that more and more is playing to the cheap seats.
