Donald Trump believed he could simply tell red states to redraw their maps and eliminate blue seats, thinking Democrats wouldn’t react.
He was incredibly mistaken.
Now, his scheme is falling apart right before his eyes.
If the state Supreme Court approves the new maps, Virginia’s Democratic delegation will have 10 representatives, while Republicans will only have one.
This is in addition to the extra seats Democrats gained in California after voters there strongly approved new maps.
Republicans also redrew maps in six other states — Texas, North Carolina, Missouri, Ohio, and Utah — which could potentially give Republicans up to nine new seats.
However, those seats have now been canceled!
With Trump’s approval rating in the trash, gas prices at an all-time high, and public anger over ICE violence, the Iran war, DOGE, attacks on our democracy, and the erosion of all our public institutions, those new “red seats” might turn out to be very purple, especially in heavily Hispanic areas of South Texas, where Republicans might have gone too far.
This is a major first step toward reclaiming the House and turning Trump into a lame-duck president halfway through his term — but there’s still a lot of work to do to make that a reality.
