President Donald Trump faced another tough day on Sunday after a new poll from NBC News showed his approval rating at 37 percent. The poll also found that people rated him even lower on how he’s handling Iran and the economy.
The NBC News poll surveyed 32,433 adults with a 1.8 percent margin of error.
It found that 37 percent of adults approve of Trump’s job performance, while 63 percent do not. This is a drop of 5 points from December and 10 points from June.
The biggest reasons for the drop are Iran and the economy.
Only 33 percent of Americans “somewhat” or “strongly” approve of Trump’s handling of the war in Iran, while 67 percent “somewhat” or “strongly” disapprove — with 54 percent in the disapprove group. On the economy, things are even worse. When asked about how Trump is handling inflation and the cost of living, only 32 percent of respondents “somewhat” or “strongly” approve, compared to 68 percent who do not.
The results from NBC News align with other recent polls that show Trump struggling.
RealClearPolitics, which tracks and averages major polls, puts Trump at 41.1 percent approval and 56 percent disapproval.
On Sunday’s Meet the Press, NBC News chief data analyst Steve Kornacki noted the large sample size of the poll but said the message was still clear.
“This is all adults, casting a very wide net here,” Kornacki said.
“But I think the picture that emerges is still very clear.”
