“Trump told Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo that he gets along well with someone and that this person wrote him a beautiful letter.”
“He wrote you a letter?”
she asked.
“Yeah.
He did. He answered a letter I sent because I heard that China is sending weapons to Iran,” Trump said, briefly forgetting he was talking about Iran. “Uh, that China is giving weapons—”
“Did he say he’s giving them?
” Bartiromo interrupted.
“Yeah, and I wrote him a letter asking him not to do that, and he wrote me a letter saying that essentially he’s not doing that,” Trump said.
In a post on Truth Social this morning, Trump repeated the claim.
“China is very happy that I am permanently opening the Strait of Hormuz.
I am doing it for them, also – And the World,” he wrote. “This situation will never happen again. They have agreed not to send weapons to Iran. President Xi will give me a big, fat, hug when I get there in a few weeks. We are working together smartly, and very well! Doesn’t that beat fighting??? BUT REMEMBER, we are very good at fighting, if we have to – far better than anyone else!!! President DJT”
Recently, U.S. intelligence agencies have concluded that China is moving to provide man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADs) to Iran amid their ongoing conflict with the Trump administration.
MANPADs are lightweight weapons that are easy to carry and can shoot down aircraft. Unlike stationary surface-to-air missile systems, which can be easily targeted and destroyed, MANPADs are simple to move, easy to hide, and can be fired from the shoulder of a single soldier. The CIA once gave MANPADs to the Afghan mujahideen during the Soviet invasion, resulting in hundreds of aircraft being shot down. If Iran gets more of these weapons, it will make it even harder for Trump to fight his illegal war.
For China, the strategic reasoning is clear.
They import more than 10% of their oil from Iran and don’t want to see their trading partner turned into a ruined, failed state, as the American-Israeli coalition desires.
By strengthening Iran’s military capabilities, China can also indirectly destroy American planes, reduce our military strength, and gather valuable intelligence on how well their weapons work against U.S. equipment.
As for Trump’s claim that Xi promised not to send these weapons, there’s no reason to believe him.
Even if Xi did send a letter, why would we trust him? He has an incentive to lie to Trump. So either Trump is lying to us or being dangerously naive.
It’s also sad that the American president has been reduced to begging our supposed enemy to be kind.
Trump started this war of aggression, quickly realized he couldn’t win, and is now essentially saying, “Please, China, leave us alone.” This isn’t leadership—it’s desperation.
Finally, the Iran War, though it disrupted oil flow and slowed the global economy, is actually beneficial for China in the long run.
The U.S. has spent tens of billions of dollars that could have gone to domestic projects or military upgrades. We’ve shifted large amounts of resources back to the Middle East instead of using them in the Pacific, weakening our position there.
Most importantly, we’ve sent a clear message to the world that the U.S. is an unstable, aggressive nation that can’t be trusted.
By starting unnecessary wars like this, we’re encouraging Europe and the rest of the world to draw closer to China. Even though China is an authoritarian country, at least it can be trusted not to push us all into World War III.
