While working families are struggling to afford their medicine and doctor visits, MAGA lawmakers are planning to cut healthcare programs that regular Americans rely on — all to fund a war with Iran that Donald Trump started and the Department of Homeland Security’s harsh deportation system.
A big new report from Axios says top House Republicans are looking at huge cuts to federal health programs to help pay for a budget bill that includes up to $200 billion for the war with Iran and ICE enforcement.
You know — the same ICE that recently caused a government shutdown because Republicans wouldn’t stop giving it billions.
Let’s be clear: the GOP wants to take healthcare away from you so they can fund a war that the American people never wanted and never asked for.
House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington (R-TX) is bringing back a plan to cut Affordable Care Act cost-sharing subsidies.
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office has said this would leave 300,000 more Americans without insurance and make millions pay more out of pocket. All to save the government $30 billion. That money will go straight into funding Trump’s military actions in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) tried to make these cruel cuts sound like fighting “fraud and waste and abuse.”
That’s strange — the same Republicans who gave big tax breaks to billionaires and corporations are suddenly worried about waste. Just not the kind that involves bombing Iran.
And it gets worse.
While Arrington publicly talks about the “false narrative” of cutting Medicare, he privately told Axios he’d love to cut Medicare payments to hospitals and crack down on Medicare Advantage — moves that would hurt seniors who depend on those programs.
He’s just worried about how it looks during an election year. Not about the people it would hurt. About appearances.
On Medicaid, Republicans are already thinking about cutting coverage for vulnerable Americans again — including bringing back their bad idea to ban states from covering undocumented immigrants, taking away healthcare from people whose only “crime” is trying to make a better life.
Some Republicans, however, are worried about taking such big steps that would hurt their own voters.
When asked if he was concerned about these cuts, Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) could only say, “I’ll see.” That’s the amount of care MAGA has for the 300,000 Americans who could lose their insurance: “I’ll see.”
Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) said it best: “Republicans in Congress want to cut Americans’ health care to pay for more war in Iran.
Let that sink in.”
These are the priorities of Trump’s loyal followers in Congress.
Republicans want to take away your health insurance.
They want to raise your premiums. They want to remove vulnerable people from Medicaid. And they want to use every dollar they save to bomb Iran and terrorize immigrant families with ICE raids.
This isn’t a drill.
This isn’t a guess. This is the Republican Party’s plan — in their own words, confirmed by their own leaders, in black and white.
